Every single one of us is seeking stress relief in our lives. We are bombarded with stressful things on a   daily basis so we all need to learn effective coping mechanisms to handle our stress so that it does not overcome us. Even positive events in our lives can cause stress. Have you ever been around someone who is planning their wedding? They’re very excited about the upcoming nuptials but very stressed out trying to make sure that everything goes smoothly. Even on a much smaller level, life presents daily issues that bring on stress. There are many ways to relieve stress, some positive and some not so positive. Smoking cigarettes is one strategy that many use to help them get stress relief that is a terrible choice to make. Here we will look at things that can cause stress in life, as well as why cigarettes are not your best choice for stress relief.

 Here are some examples of issues in life that can cause you to feel stressed out;

1. Car breaking down
2. Traffic
3. Rude people you encounter
4. Home repairs
5. Unruly children
6. Inclement weather
7. Arguing with your partner
8. Bills to be paid

There are so many more daily hassles that can cause us to seek stress relief. Big events in life, like a marriage or moving bring on stress, but these come and go and we recover. It is the daily stressors that we have to learn to handle. Unfortunately many turn to cigarettes as a means of stress relief. The truth of the matter is that cigarettes do not actually calm you down. It is the oxygen that you breathe in when you take a pull that actually does the calming. The cigarettes stimulate you, which is the opposite effect that you are seeking. Perhaps the only good thing about taking a cigarette break is the break itself. Getting away from whatever it is that is stressing you out is a helpful way of coping, as it allows you to step away and perhaps come back with a fresh perspective and being better prepared to deal with the situation.

How does smoking cigarettes help in your achieving stress relief?

Smoking cigarettes causes your brain to release certain chemicals that are mood boosters. Unfortunately, these only last for a short time, which is why, in no time at all you begin feeling for another cigarette. So, like caffeine, which gives you a quick boost of energy, a cigarette can also give you a boost of mental calm. Perhaps it is the distraction that going for a cigarette break offers that makes this strategy helpful for smokers.

If you tend to take your cigarette breaks with a friend at the office or your partner at home, then smoking becomes a social situation which you may actually come to depend on and look forward to. This makes it even harder to drop this unhealthy habit. So, while this may offer you some stress relief, in the back of your mind, knowing that smoking is very bad for you, this might become a stressor in your life that comes to mind with each cigarette you smoke.

So having said that smoking is an unhealthy habit, and you knowing this, whether or not you’re willing to admit it, it should be obvious that you ought to seek out alternate coping mechanisms to attain stress relief in your life. First, I would suggest you get started on a stop smoking plan immediately along with learning strategies that can help you reduce the stress in your life. There are so many different ways to relieve stress that you can learn here at my blog so look around and read up on how to relieve stress so that you can be happier and healthier in your life.

Learning how to be happy is a critical skill we all need to learn. Happiness would probably be explained in different ways as you ask different people to define what happiness is to them. Happiness is triggered in us by different things. The weather can have a significant impact on our feelings of well-being or happiness, as can our bank account and many other things. We derive happiness when we experience connection with others, meaning (you’re an important part of this large world),accomplishments, pleasure (relaxing in your hot tub, eating a nice meal as example) and engagement (any physical activities you enjoy like golf, tennis and so on).

Here we will look at 7 simple tips that can help you boost your happiness in life.

Our attitude towards life can have a significant impact on our level of happiness. So in learning how to be happy we need to be attentive to our overall attitude. We need to maintain an attitude of gratitude for the blessings in our lives, as this helps to promote overall happiness. Recognize that YOU have the ability to choose whether to be happy or not. Do not allow circumstances to control your happiness. Counteract any negatives in your life with a positive so that you stay on the right track of happiness.

So lets look at some tips on how to be happy;

1. Count on Friends – friends are a definite gift and everyone needs at least one close one who you can rely on to share your life’s experiences,bounce ideas off of, cry,laugh, and spend time with. Those who are unfortunate enough not to have such a friend tend to be prone to depression so it’s in your best interest to get out there and make some friends.

2. Avoid The News – how much of the mews do you think is positive? Tune it out as it’s mostly negative. See what happens to your overall mood after a week of no news…no cheating now. Use that extra time you would have spent with the news in a positive way. Do some exercise or do something nice for yourself or someone in your life.

3. Eat healthily – you are what you eat and there is clear evidence that how we feel about ourselves is greatly influenced by what we put into our body. Our bodies rely on us to provide it with food that gives it the nutrients it needs in order to function properly. We derive benefits from our food not only from the nutrients but also from the pleasure of the taste of the foods. Some foods known to boost happiness are those rich in Vitamin B6 (bananas,brussel sprouts,broccoli,watermelon,avocados,collard greens, garlic, chicken breast, potatos and more). Vitamin B6 interacts with your brain’s neurotransmitters that boost your mood.

4. Declutter – when you allow your home or office to become overrun with paperwork or other stuff, it can affect how you feel mentally and emotionally about your life. So, if this is you, Get started decluttering today. Take it one step at a time and don’t let the size of the task overwhelm you. Even the process of decluttering can have a sort of meditative effect as you focus in on what you are doing.

5. You Time – make sure that you reserve some time regularly for “me time”. Doing things that you enjoy are a major boost to your happiness. You could invest in and enjoy a hot tub for soothing your muscles and relaxing you, take a walk by the beach, playing a round of golf or a game of tennis, or taking a short vacation as some examples. Also having something to look forward to helps in keeping your happiness level up.

6. Walk Your Dog – if you have a dog, taking them for a walk can be very helpful in boosting your mood. You get to get out in the fresh air, see your pet so happy to be getting attention from you, bond some more with your beloved pet and get a little exercise in also.

7. Meditation – simple meditation such as closing your eyes and breathing in slowly and deeply can have tremendous calming effects that helps reduce stress and makes you feel happier overall.

Now you know how to be happy by using these 7 ideas. Give them a try and see how much better you feel.

Reducing Stress Through Exercise, 7 Easy Ways

Excuse me, have we met?

Author:mcarruth

Reducing stress via exercise is something that many people resort to. In addition to benefiting their bodies, their minds also gain advantage by becoming calmer and more relaxed. Some opt instead for junk foods or comfort foods as they’re also called. In this case their mind and bodies are being not only subjected to the stress, but in, addition, you are piling on more bad stuff by going this route. So I highly recommend that, given the choice between exercising to reduce your stress or stuffing yourself on junk foods, that you choose to exercise.

To reduce your stress you do not have to go to a gym and do a heavy lifting, body building workout, unless this is your preference. There are many other options for you which we will look at here. Stress is a very dangerous condition, to continuously have, as it can lead to life-threatening diseases and conditions such as heart disease, cancer, Type 2 diabetes, depression and high blood pressure. It also causes back pains, upset stomachs, anxiety, irritability, headaches, sleep troubles and on and on.

Whether you are a man or a woman, it doesn’t matter. Stress affects us all. From what you’ve read so far you must realize that you cannot ignore stress and hope that it will go away on its own. YOU have to be proactive and do things to control it and its effects on your life. When we exercise we are forced to breathe deeply which stimulates our body’s relaxation response so this basically melts stress away. Let’s look at some possible choices as far as exercise goes.

1. Walking – this is my favorite. It’s so simple to do. You do not need to learn how to walk or need to have any special equipment either. When I walk I carry 2 pound weights, as I do arm exercises while walking. This helps me to tone up my arms at the same time. It also adds to the cardiovascular effect I get. In addition, since I have I have to count my repetitions as I go, I am also exercising my mind at the same time. With my mind focused on this, it cannot also be focused on stress. I go to my favorite park, which in itself is quite soothing, for my walks. Choose a nice outdoor path and breathe in some fresh air while you de-stress.

2. Dancing - you may never have thought of dancing as exercise but it sure can be. Ever see how toned the dancers are on the TV show Dancing With The Stars? They use every muscle in their bodies to make those moves look so smooth and elegant. Dancing can help you with balance as well as agility. Dancing helps develop
connections with others if you take a dance class for example. This sense of community can lower stress and elevate your happiness. Check out your local community center to find out if they offer any classes. Dancing also benefits your mind as you have to focus on learning new steps or following steps. Again, being focused on something other than stress is wonderful.

3. Yoga – yoga helps you to become more flexible which helps to reduce physical tension. You are also encouraged to do deep breathing, which causes your body to relax. Yoga poses require your concentration so you are unable to worry about or plan or analyze anything else but your yoga poses. Yoga is also proven to lower blood pressure, probably because you are doing thins that help to calm you down and soothe you at the same time. You can do yoga at home which makes it very convenient. Selecting from the different types of yoga is important. The one that relates particularly to stress is hatha yoga. The others tend to be more athletic.

4. Tai Chi – this is derived from an old Chinese martial art and the key here is the link between your bodily movements and your breathing. Have you ever seen someone performing Tai Chi? It looks as though they are meditating while very slowly moving their bodies. Tai Chi increases your flexibility, your balance, boosts your energy and gives you an overall sense of improved well-being. It also helps you to sleep better while boosting your cardiovascular health. There are different levels of intensity with Tai Chi, as with Yoga so be sure to look into the level that works for you to help you with reducing stress.

5. Tennis – great outdoor sport that can be played well into your later years so it’s not only for the young working people who are stressed out. Tennis is an excellent cardiovascular workout which has many benefits for you such as lowering blood pressure and protecting you against heart disease. You get a toned, fit body and feel
good about yourself. In addition, because you have to have someone to play with it helps to keep you connected which is a well known key to stress reduction. As with most forms of exercise, your body releases endorphins when you play tennis, which help to boost your mood.

6. Gardening – some people swear that gardening is the best form of stress reduction. It can also be quite the workout too. All of the bending, pulling, hauling and digging that goes on when gardening can serve to make you burn many calories without even realizing it. We humans are meant to connect with nature also so, by gardening, we are also strengthening that connection which boost our spirits.

7. Pilates – pilates is a group of exercises that concentrate on your core strength, proper alignment and being aware of your body. It focuses on lengthening (stretching) and strengthening (toning) your muscles at the same time. You have to be focused for pilates to work so there is no room for thinking about whatever it is that is stressing you out. By doing pilates you find that your back and neck pains are reduced. Stress is famous for causing back and neck pain. This is a form of exercise that you could do at home if you prefer, or with others in a class.

So there you have 7 different forms of exercise you can get involved with quite easily and quickly to start working on reducing your stress. Don’t overdo it and hurt yourself but try to do some exercise regularly to stay in control of your stress level. You may also want to check with you doctor before starting any exercise program.

How to reduce stress with exercise is a great strategy to be aware of as it offers stress relief as well as other benefits for your mind, body and soul. Few of us, if any, could say that we’ve never experienced stress in our lives. The causes of stress are multiple and varied. Some feel stress on the job with pressure to perform certain tasks within a certain time frame, business owners may be stressed by loss of business due to the poor economy, families are under financial pressure these days as well. If you are in a troubled relationship you definitely know about stress as well. Stress is a harmful fact of life, however there are ways to relieve stress and exercising is one of the best because it is both natural and effective.

You have many options when you are thinking of how to reduce stress. There is relaxing in a hot tub, listening to music, getting a massage and so on, however I would reckon that exercising is probably at the top of the list for the most beneficial stress relieving methods you could opt for. When you exercise your brain releases endorphins which some have compared to opiates. Endorphins make you feel good all over. It’s impossible to be feeling good all over and stressed at the same time so it’s clear that exercise is good for you just with that being said.

Some opt for doing yoga, working out at the gym or perhaps taking an aerobics class or Zumba class at the gym to get rid of stress. These are all excellent ideas that you could try if they appeal to you. Some guys and gals find a good weight training workout very helpful for them to drop the stress of the day and feel better afterward. What is important is that you figure out how to reduce stress in the way that works for you and that you can repeat whenever you are feeling overwhelmed.

What I love about using exercise as your strategy for reducing stress is that it is natural, no pills or drugs of any kind are needed. The second thing I love about exercise is the many other benefits you get from doing it, in addition to stress reduction. You get fit, for one. Your body becomes more toned. You will find that you can think more clearly also. Seeing how much better you look and feel will make you feel more self-confident which could lead to all sorts of improvements in your life.

If you are unable to set aside a half hour every day for some exercise there are other ways that you can incorporate physical exertion to help reduce stress. Whatever you can think of to increase your level of activity will help. Some examples would be taking the stairs instead of the elevator and parking further than you need to so that you have a longer walk. Those are just two quick examples for you. I’m sure if you try you can come up with more that would fit into your life’s routines.

How to reduce stress with exercise can be extremely simple, here are some ways;

1. Walking – can you find 15 minutes to go for a brisk walk in your neighborhood either before or after work? Do you have a dog who could accompany you? This will help to clear your mind and reduce the stress you are feeling.

2. Any Outdoor Exercise – when you exercise outdoors it adds to the benefits as you are in a natural environment, exxposed to fresh air and nature. You could run or jog, play golf or tennis, or even go for a ride on your bicycle. Do you have a trike? There are so many options for outdoor exercise. You could go kayaking on a nearby lake if this is what you love doing. You’re basically distracting your mind by doing positive things for yourself. See the stress washing away from you as you go.

3. Get some sunshine on your skin every day – natural sunshine provides our bodies with essential Vitamin D, so get outdoors and get some every day. It is good for heart health and has many other benefits for you as well. You could use this time to meditate if you like. Meditation is another excellent stress reliever. What an incredible way to boost your mood also.

Now you know how to reduce stress with exercise so put on some comfy clothes and get to it. You will feel so much better afterward. That’s a promise.
